ADRIAEN BROUWER GOES TO THE MAURITSHUIS
We are proud to announce the sale of Adriaen Brouwer's Superbia (Pride) to the Mauritshuis, The Hague. Following its purchase at auction early last year and after thorough research, the picture was conclusively proven to form part of a series of the Seven Deadly Sins painted by Brouwer in the late 1630's. As the only other known painting from the series is Brouwer's famous 'Fat Man' - which depicts either Acedia (Sloth) or Luxuria (Lust) - kept in the Mauritshuis, the museum did not hesitate to jump at this opportunity.
We are delighted to have once more reunited these two paintings, centuries after they were separated, and congratulate the museum on their fine purchase.
